Meet Amiee Gibbs

I grew up in rural Maryland, where I still live on an allegedly haunted road, but I have dreams of running away to Ireland. I have worked for Penguin Random House for thirteen years as a sales manager for independent bookstores across New England, New York, and the West Coast. Prior to that I was an assistant sales manager at Waldenbooks and Borders. I hold an MLA degree with a focus on world literature and creative writing and am currently teaching myself Gaeilge.

Random facts:

  • The legend of the haunted road stems back to an horrific incident that occurred in the late 1750’s involving a lost silver mine, a betrayal, a beheading, a fire and the ghosts of a father and daughter who still roam the woods to be seen only when the moon is right.

  • My great-grandfather was a dowser (water-witch) who kept bees and guinea hens while my great-grandmother spoke of the "haints in the holler", made amazing cherry dumplings, and kept knives under her mattress for reasons known only to herself.

  • Where ever I travel, I attempt to visit at least one old cemetery. Highly recommend a visit to Cave Hill in Louisville KY, if such things strike your fancy.

  • I have four rescue cats (Seamus, Beckett, Finnegan and Merlin).

  • I’m a bit of a fashion junkie and hope to one day own a Vampire's Wife dress. Little Rooms and Awe Inspired are my go to jewelry. Henry Rose, Guerlain and Solstice Scents are among my favorite perfumes. I have an ungodly number of shoes.

  • Hendricks Gin is a fave as is coconut chocolate chip ice cream. I also consume way too much coffee.

  • Musical tastes are eclectic. Motown/Stax to blues/jazz to folk to goth to 70s/80s to 90’s industrial/grunge. I listen to very few contemporary artists, returning always to the past. But I am convincible, if you have a recommendation.

  • I will continue to dream of running away to Ireland until I do so, where I hope to live somewhere between the green and the sea.
